What if I don’t like spicy food?

Not to worry! Simply swap the chillies out for more garlic and BOOM you now have a 15 Minute Sweet and Garlic Steak recipe

Ingredients You’ll Need

You’ll be surprised at how easy and quick the sauce takes to make. I prefer using fresh flavours but feel free to use whatever is available to you.

For the sauce:

  • 3-4 tbsp dark soy sauce (£0.27)
  • 2-3 tbsp honey (maple syrup is a great alternative) (£0.10)
  • 1 tbsp white/malt vinegar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • pinch of black pepper
  • pinch of salt (optional)

Other:

  • 3-4 slices of thin-cut beef steaks (£3.83)
  • 2 small white onions (£0.12/1)=(£0.24/2)
  • 4 bird eye chillies (£0.22)
  • 4 garlic cloves (£0.42)

Total Cost:

£5.31/£1.70 Per Serving!

What to serve with this 15 Minute Sweet Chilli Steak

The obvious answer to eating this 15 Minute Sweet Chilli Steak is to eat this with rice but this is Young Soul Kitchen so I’ll give you a few other ideas of what to serve this with:

  • Couscous– this is a super great healthy and affordable alternative to rice and tastes extremely delicious with the sauciness of the steak.
  • Roti– mmm fresh warm roti with this sweet chilli steak is super comforting.
  • Steamed Vegetables– Serve with a side of steamed vegetables and season with Aromat and enjoy. This is one of my favourite ways to eat this sweet chilli steak recipe.
  • French Fries– French fries are another great alternative for this recipe as it tastes delicious with the sauciness of the steak.

Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • 2 small white onions (£0.12/1)=(£0.24/2)
  • 4 bird eye chillies (£0.22)
  • 4 tbsp garlic cloves (£0.42)

Instructions

  • In a bowl mix together dark soy sauce, honey, white/malt vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper a the salt (optional).
  • In a pan, drizzle in oil and turn the heat up to medium-high. Once the pan is hot fry the sliced onions, chili, garlic and ginger. Saute for 3-5 minutes.
  • Drizzle a tablespoon or two of the marinade into the pan and allow it caramalize the onions, chilli, garlic and ginger.
  • Turn the heat high and throw in the strips of steak and allow to fry for a few minutes or until cooked through. Pour in the rest of the mariande and allow it to simmer and coat the steak strips for 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve with rice and salad and enjoy!

Notes

  • To make the steak strips crisper coat the strips in corn flour and fry them separately
  • I like my sweet chilli steak slightly less sweeter and much more spicer so I choose to replace honey with maple syrup instead!
