Homemade Peri-Peri Chicken is so much better!

Have you ever made a recipe at home and thought to yourself “Wow this tastes so much better than…” well this Homemade Peri-Peri Chicken (with sauce!) is exactly how you’ll feel.

I decided to make a copycat version of Nandoes because in my opinion takeout is becoming drastically expensive. Because of this, I’ve decided to make a new “Fakeaway” series with the aim of helping you create affordable and comforting takeaway from the comfort of your home

Ingredients Needed

One of my personal favourites about this Homemade Peri-Peri Chicken (with sauce!) recipe is that it only needs minimum ingredients that you can find in about every local supermarket. Down below I’ve listed the ingredients needed and included the cost!

  • 2 1/4 Chickens (£1.70) (or any other piece of chicken)

For the Homemade Peri-Peri Sauce:

  • 2 Bell peppers (£1.35/3)= £0.90
  • 2 Small onions (£0.24)
  • 3-4 Red chillies (£0.50)
  • 4 Garlic Cloves (£0.42)
  • Drizzle Olive oil
  • Juice of a lemon (£0.30)

Seasoning:

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Tumeric
  • 1 tsp Ginger powder
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • Salt to Taste

Total Cost: £4.06/£2.03 Per Serving

How Should I Store this Recipe?

  • The Sauce– Store in an airtight container/jar. The sauce should be good for up to 5 days.
  • Cooked Chicken– Store in an airtight container and eat within 5 days.

What to serve with Peri-Peri Chicken?

Nothing beats Peri Peri Chicken with crispy fries but if you’re looking for something more satisfying try my One-Pot Vegetable Rice it’s delicious and takes less than 30 minutes to create.

Can I freeze this recipe?

Yes, once cooked and cooled, place the chicken in an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months.

Allow the chicken to thoroughly defrost before reheating. Reheat/cook as normal in the oven.

Recipe Tips

  • Occasionally brush on the sauce during cooking to prevent the chicken from drying out
  • Marinate the chicken for at least 4-5 hours to allow the sauce to soak into the chicken
  • Turn over the chicken to allow both sides to cook evenly
  • Towards the end of cooking turn the heat up to allow the chicken to get slightly crispy
