Creamy Gochujang Orzo
Have you tried Gochujang? It’s a Korean fermented chile paste that comes in sweet and spicy varieties. Creamy, Sweet, and Spicy, this Korean-inspired Creamy Gochujang Orzo recipe is a must-try. It’s made without cream but nevertheless is creamy, and is ideal for vegans or individuals who happen to be dairy intolerant.
It only takes 30 minutes to make and with a cost of about £0.44p per serving and serves 2-3 people, this is a recipe you won’t regret making!

Ingredients Needed
- 2.5 Cups Orzo (£0.67p)
- 1.5-2 tbsp. Gochujang Paste (£0.25p)
- 2 Small Onions (£0.12p/2)= (£0.24p)
- 2 Grated Garlic Cloves (£0.13p)
- 1 tsp Grated Ginger (£0.05p)
- 3 Cups of Chicken/Vegetable Stock
- Slab of butter/drizzle of oil
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Pinch of Chili Flakes (optional)
- Coriander (optional)
How Spicy Is This Recipe?
This Creamy Gochujang Orzo is moderately spicy. Feel free to add in more or less Gochujang and chilli flakes as you’d like.
If you like it super hot try frying bird’s eye chilli with the onions.
Variations and Add-Ins
- Pasta– this recipe tastes as good as any other kind of pasta. A personal favourite is penne pasta for this recipe.
- Protein-grilled chicken, pan-fried tofu, and spicy beef strips work deliciously well for this recipe.
- Vegetables– Spinach, peas, green beans, and even corn work well in the recipe as well.
- Dairy– a bit of mozzarella or cheddar cheese really compliments the spiciness and sweetness of this recipe.
CREAMY GOCHUJANG ORZO
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups Orzo (£0.67p)
- 1½-2 tbsp Gochujang Paste (£0.25p)
- 2 Small Onions (£0.12p/2)= (£0.24p
- 2 Grated Garlic Cloves (£0.13p)
- 1 tsp Grated Ginger (£0.05p)
- 3 Cups Chicken/Vegetable Stock
- Slab of butter/drizzle of oil
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Pinch of Chili Flakes optional
- Coriander optional
Instructions
- Dice the onions into cubes and grate the ginger and garlic.
- In a medium heated pan, throw in the butter and allow it to melt before throwing in the onionsCook the onions until translucent before adding the garlic and ginger.
- Once the onions have slightly darkened pour in the orzo and toast for a few minutes. At this point season the orzo with chili flakes, salt and pepper.
- Once toasted add the gochujang paste and stock. Stir to mix the gochujang into orzo. Keep stirting gently to prevent the orzo from sticking to the pan. Cook until the orzo is cooked through.
- Top the orzo with corriander and serve
- Enjoy : )
