Ingredients

  • 1 Loaf Challah Bread (£2.10) brioche or a thick white loaf can be used
  • ½ cup Single Cream (£0.99/300ml)= (£0.33p)
  • 1 Egg (£0.27)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp Brown sugar
  • 1.5 tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg powder
  • pinch Salt optional
  • Toppings In this recipe I used icing powder, strawberries, blueberries and honey

Instructions

  • Begin by slicing the bread into thick even slices. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, whisk the cream, egg, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together. Soak both sides of the sliced bread for 1-2 minutes.
  • In a medium heated pan, chuck in a cube of butter or a drizzle of oil. Carefully take the soaked bread out of the bowl and into the heated pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Repeat using the other slices.
  • Serve with your desired toppings and Enjoy : )

Notes

  • I used the entire loaf because I wanted thick slices, so this recipe serves two. To make more slices of french toast, cut the loaf thinner.
